MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Miles went on the road for the first time this season looking to remain undefeated. But a tough third quarter was the difference as the Lady Bears fell 52-43 to Auburn Montgomery Wednesday night.
Sakina Wynn had 14 points and 7 rebounds to lead Miles (3-1) but the Lady Bears' normally reliant defense went missing at the start of the second half, which helped AUM (4-1) take the lead for good.
The game was tied at 20 at halftime but the Lady Bears had gone cold entering the break. A bucket by
Kahyanne Bolton had give Miles a 20-10 lead at the 7:38 mark of the second quarter. But the team would miss its last 11 shots of the quarter. There were seven turnovers during that stretch, the last which led directly to the game-tying basket with seven seconds remaining.
A 10-2 run to start the third quarter put AUM ahead for good. A basket by Aaliyah Milord pushed the Warhawks lead to 34-24 four minutes into the second half and Miles would never get closer than three points the rest of the way.
Jordan Brewster had 12 points and Alexia Wallace added 11 for AUM.
Raiana Johnson had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals while Bolton chipped in with 6 points for Miles, which plays next at Carver College. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m.Â
