GOLDEN BEARS FALL IN GAME ONE OF HBCU CLASSIC

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Miles College baseball team (0-3) dropped game one of the HBCU Baseball Classic in Jacksonville, FL to host school Edward Waters College Tigers 9-0 this morning.

The Golden Bears could not get their bats on track, as they inked out two hits and had five errors. Senior first baseman Sergio Galloway (Columbia, MS) and junior outfielder Ryan Garibay (Monteca, CA) each had one hit.

JACKSON, TN – Miles men’s basketball team dropped a close game to the Dragons of Lane College 76-73 Thursday night at Omar Arena.

Lane led Miles 41-27 at halftime and Miles out scored the Dragons 46-35 in the second half. The Golden Bears shot 42.6% from the field, 40% from the 3-point line and 65.5% at the free throw line. Lane scored on 42.9% of its shots and hit 45.9% from the foul line.

LADY BEARS FALL TO LANE 56-49

JACKSON, TN – Miles College Lady Bears basketball team had three players to score in double figures, but was not enough as they fell to the Lady Dragons of Lane College 56-49 Thursday night at Omar Arena.

Lane (8-11) led Miles (12-8; 9-6) 24-16 at halftime and Miles turned the corner for a 33-32 lead in the second half. The Lady Bears hit 17-of-67 (25.4%) shots, 6-of-15 (40%) from behind the arch and 9-of-17 (52.9%) from the foul line. Lane shot 29.1 percent from the field and 65.5 percent at the free throw line.

Five student athletes signed National Letters of Intent to play football with the Miles College Golden Bears for the 2010 season, during the initial national signing day on February 3, head coach William “Billy” Joe announced Wednesday.

MILES COLLEGE RELEASES HEAD MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH

FAIRFIELD, AL – Miles College Interim Athletic Director Dr. Chico Caldwell, today announced that Christopher Giles has been released as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, effective immediately. Assistant Coach Will Cotchery will assume the duties and responsibilities as Interim Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball program for the remainder of the season and at that time the search for a New Head Coach will get underway.

“We appreciate Coach Giles for his service and dedication to the program at Miles College and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said Interim Athletic Director Caldwell.
